This case study shows how Centauro—one of the largest sports goods marketplaces in Brazil—used Ribon to boost its donations for a social project focused on promoting sports inclusion for people with disabilities, expanding its philanthropic reach to thousands of new supporters to enhance its social impact.

The objective of the campaign was to increase the initial grant that Centauro had set aside to donate to NASCE (Núcleo Assistencial à Criança com Necessidades Especiais)—a project of São Paulo City Hall that is a reference in socializing people with disabilities. In addition to the increase, the company wanted to bring visibility to the cause of inclusion in sports, especially among its customers and employees, who could use Ribon’s app to learn about and donate to the project alongside Centauro.

Campaign Overview

Through Ribon’s donation platform, Centauro connected 48,964 individuals with NASCE’s project, allowing each to contribute directly to the inclusion of people with disabilities in sports. Based on internal research, over 60% of these individuals were making their first-ever charitable donations, highlighting Ribon’s success in generating new donors.

In total, 170,416 ticket donation events were carried out in just 9 months. Donors collected tickets backed by Centauro’s grant and chose which specific NASCE initiative they wanted to support. This opportunity to actively contribute to the project created a deeper connection with the cause, leading some donors to purchase additional tickets to amplify the impact of their donations. In this case, the additional purchased tickets resulted in a 74.1% increase over the initial grant placed in Ribon.

The campaign’s original goal was to include 570 people in sports programs. However, with the extra funds raised, another 421 people were supported, bringing the total to 991 individuals with disabilities participating in NASCE’s sports programs.

This achievement was made possible thanks to Ribon’s gamified and user-friendly platform, which kept NASCE’s cause at the forefront for donors. The platform fostered a culture of regular giving and empowered individuals to actively participate in Centauro’s social impact strategy.

Ribon’s model applied to healthcare nonprofits

Healthcare nonprofits in the United States have a unique opportunity to harness Ribon’s platform, much like Centauro did with NASCE, to enhance donor engagement and drive significant impact. By leveraging unrestricted grants, organizations can potentially achieve a substantial increase in this resource through a streamlined five-step approach:

  1. The share of the organization’s unrestricted grants allocated for the campaign is converted into tickets.
  2. The organization designates 3 to 10 internal projects to receive the donations, such as a mental health support campaign or the provision of diagnostic tests. They can be changed or edited at any time.
  3. The tickets are then distributed to the organization’s employees, allowing them to collect and allocate their contributions to the projects that resonate most with them.
  4. Many employees may feel motivated to purchase extra tickets, amplifying the overall fundraising effort and impact.
  5. Ribon’s referral mechanism encourages some of them to even invite friends and family to donate alongside them, organically scaling the number of donors.

Purchased tickets generate additional funding for the organization, and the increase is proportional to the size of your staff. Over a one-year campaign with an average engagement rate of 35%, the additional value often equals 8 times the number of employees.

For instance, if your healthcare nonprofit has 50,000 employees, Ribon could help raise an extra $400,000. Best of all, this fundraising is entirely passive, so there’s no need to ask your staff for financial contributions.

This innovative model not only generates new funds but also promotes a deeper connection between employees and the organization’s mission. By illustrating the direct impact of their contributions, Ribon enhances employees’ overall work experience and commitment to the organization’s goals, fostering a sense of community and shared purpose among them.
